Founder's Letter

El Viento's mission is to provide children and young adults with opportunities for success in life. These successes are the result of long term relationships developed together within an environment of mutual trust and respect, teamwork, learning, and skills and leadership development.  El Viento is about Making a Difference ...

  • In the lives of young people in search of greater opportunities
  • In communities in search of ways to come together and help each other
  • In the lives of those in search of ways to help the less fortunate

Our mission statement describes how El Viento will achieve its purpose: by making a difference

By using the sea and sailing as a metaphor for life, we are introducing young people to their greater role in the environment while providing them with the tools and skills they need to create their own opportunities in life. El Viento makes a long-term commitment to our young students beginning in fourth grade and continuing through community college. Our commitment is to help them help themselves.

El Viento also makes a long-term commitment to the Oak View Elementary School, Ocean View School District, Huntington Beach Unified High School District and to the Coast Community College District - a commitment of partnership in carrying out our mission. Finally, El Viento is a long-term commitment to our community and our sponsors - a commitment to work together to achieve our purpose. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to work with our children, our community, and our sponsors so we can make a difference.
